How to Reboot Your Server in WHM

Overview

Sometimes, you may need to reboot your VPS or Dedicated Server — for example, after major configuration changes, software updates, or to resolve performance issues.

WHM provides a safe way to restart the server or system services without data loss.

Types of Reboots in WHM

WHM offers two reboot options:

  1. Graceful Server Reboot
    • Safely stops all services before rebooting.
    • Prevents data corruption.
    • Recommended in most cases.
  1. Forceful Server Reboot
    • Immediately reboots the server without waiting for services to stop.
    • Use only if the server is unresponsive.

1. Log in to WHM

2. Open the Reboot Section

  • From the left-hand sidebar, navigate to:

Home → System Reboot

3. Choose the Reboot Type

  • You’ll see two options:
    • Graceful Server Reboot
    • Forceful Server Reboot

Click on the one that suits your case.

Always start with a Graceful Reboot unless the system is frozen.

4. Confirm the Reboot

  • Click Proceed or Yes when prompted.
  • The server will go offline briefly and restart.
  • Wait 1–2 minutes, then log back into WHM.

"Tip For Thamara Users"

  • If you frequently need to reboot after updates, schedule them during low-traffic hours.
  • Avoid force reboots unless absolutely necessary — they can cause data loss or MySQL corruption.
