How to compress Files in cPanel

Overview

Managing your website files efficiently helps improve organization, backup, and transfer speed. Thamara Cloud’s File Manager in cPanel allows you to easily compress (ZIP, TAR, GZ, RAR) or extract files directly from your hosting account — without the need for FTP or external software.

How to Compress a File

1. Log in to cPanel.
2. Open the File Manager.
3. Select one or more files/folders that you want to compress.
4. Click the Compress icon from the top toolbar.

5. Choose your preferred Compression Type:

• • .zip (Most common, Windows compatible)
  • .tar.gz (Best for Linux servers)
  • .rar (Optional for archiving large projects)

6. Enter the name of the compressed archive (for example, backup-website.zip) and click Compress File(s).
7. A dialog box will appear showing the Compression Results with details of the created archive.
