Domain Management: How to Troubleshoot Common Domain Transfer Issues

Started a domain transfer and got the message “Transfer Failed”?

No worries — this happens often and is usually caused by a small setting or a missing code.

In this Thamara Cloud guide, we’ll walk you through the most common reasons domain transfers fail — and how to fix them step-by-step, whether you’re transferring your domain to Thamara Cloud or away from it.

  •  What Is a Domain Transfer?

A domain transfer means moving your domain’s management from one registrar to another —

for example, from GoDaddy to Thamara Cloud.

People transfer domains to:

         ◦ Keep all their domains in our place

         ◦ get better pricing or extra features

         ◦ Simplify management by having hosting and domains under one account

  •  Steps to Transfer Your Domain to Thamara Cloud

◦ Log in to your Thamara Cloud account

◦ Go to your dashboard and click on Domains:

◦ Click on transfer domain to Thamara:

◦ Enter your domain name and click on order now :

◦ Add your EPP (Authorization) Code from the current registrar

◦ Approve the confirmation email from your current registrar

 Tip:

Make sure your domain is Unlocked and not under a 60-day transfer restriction.

Common Domain Transfer Issues and Solutions

  • The Domain Already Exists in Our System

---> If you’re trying to transfer a domain that’s already registered under another Thamara Cloud account, the system will block the transfer.

Fix:

Use Move Domain Between Accounts from your dashboard instead of a registrar transfer.

  • Incorrect Registrant Contact Information

---> If your contact email is outdated, you won’t receive the verification email needed to approve the transfer.

 Fix:

Update your Registrant Email under your domain settings and make sure you can receive emails.

  • Invalid or Expired EPP / Authorization Code

--->The EPP code is sensitive — even one typo or extra space can cause the transfer to fail.

Fix:

        ◦ Copy and pasta the code directly (no spaces)

        ◦ If expired, request new code from your current registrar

        ◦ Check your spam folder if you didn’t receive it

  • Domain Lock Enabled

---> Some registrars automatically lock domains after renewal or ownership updates.

Fix:

Log in to your current registrar, locate Unlock Domain, and disable the lock before starting the transfer.

  • Domain in Redemption Period

---> When a domain expires, it enters a Redemption Period (usually 30 days), during which transfers aren’t allowed.

Fix:

Renew your domain first, then restart the transfer process.

  • 60-Day ICANN Transfer Lock

---> By ICANN policy, any newly registered or recently transferred domain is locked for 60 days.

 Fix:

Check your registration or last transfer date.If you’re still within 60 days, wait until the lock expires. Avoid editing registrant details before transferring — it can reset the lock period.

  • Payment Failed

---> If your transfer fee wasn’t successfully processed, the request will be automatically canceled.

Fix:

Double-check your payment method, make sure funds are available, and billing details are correct.

  • Registrar System Error

---> Sometimes, the issue comes from the gaining registrar’s end.

 Fix:

Contact Thamara Cloud Support to re-check or manually push your transfer.

  •  Verification Email Not Approved

---> If you don’t click the confirmation link in the verification email, your transfer will fail.

 Fix:

Check your inbox (and spam folder). When you receive the email, click Approve Transfer immediately.

  • ICANN Transfer Rules

---> ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) sets the global standards for all domain transfers:

        ◦ 60-Day Lock: Domains can’t be transferred within 60 days of registration or previous transfer

        ◦ Redemption Period: Expired domains in redemption can’t be transferred

        ◦ Chargeback Hold: Transfers are blocked for domains involved in payment disputes

        ◦ Legal or Fraud Cases: Transfers are denied during ongoing disputes or court orders
